Working with a small, motivated team of geographers to provide
geographic education and outreach programs in elementary and
secondary schools, using an inflatable, portable classroom in the
form of a physical globe. This project involves direct outreach to
several thousand students and scores of teachers and
administrators each academic year, augmenting the ongoing work of
the Southeast Massachusetts Geography Network (SEMAGNET).
The
project
also
involves
mentoring
current
and
future
geography
educators
at
all
levels
and
advocating
for educational reforms that can re-revitalize geographic
education in Massachusetts. The project has led directly to the
introduction of legislation with the potential to greatly expand
geographic education and geographic literacy throughout the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

team, helped to establish a program and undergraduate minor in
Latin American and Caribbean Studies. Coodrdinator duties

strategy for advising tea producers worldwide on adaptations
to climate change. The strategy calls for the use of
Geographic Information Systems to integrate climate and
production data, field trials, and meso-scale climate
modeling. The Working Group will develop a system that
extension sevices throughout the tea-producing world can use
to generate site-specific recommendations for cultivar
selection and farm management.

Governor to develop recommendations based on citizen forums that

seven-member task force synthesized recommendations related to
civic engagement, revenue, budget priorities, transportation,
regionalization and ethics reform. It also conducted preliminary
research into practices in other states and countries and will
develop frameworks for continued citizen involvement in renewing
government. Geographic contributions include a focus on the
regionalization of local and state government services.
