B. Sc. (Physics Honors), University of Jaffna (1999)

M.S. (Physics) Northeastern University (2005)

Ph.D. (Physics) Northeastern University (2010)

Thesis Title: “Drug-DNA Interactions at the Single Molecule Level: A View with Optical Tweezers”

MRSEC Postdoctoral Associate: Brandeis University (2010-2013)

Research Interest

My research interest in the field of biophysics is to use physics techniques to study biological systems at single molecule level. This research is done in collaboration with Williams Lab at Northeastern University and Gelles Lab at Brandeis University. At Williams Lab, we use optical tweezers to investigate potential cancer and HIV drugs that reversibly bind to DNA. At Gelles Lab, we are interested in studying dissociation pathways of molecular complexes in the presence of competitors, using Total Internal Reflection (TIR) spectroscopy on fluorescently labeled single molecules. For more information visit the Bridgewater State University Single Molecule Biophysics Lab (BSU-SMB LAB).

Awarded the prestigious Dr. James DiNardo Award for Excellence in Teaching (2019 May)

Honored with the Outstanding Faculty Award for 2019 given by the Honors Program at Bridgewater State University (2019 May)

Collaborative project, entitled "Quantifying Single Molecule DNA-ligand Interactions," is funded by the National Science Foundation. This award starts August 1 , 2018 and ends July 31, 2023 and will sub-contract  nearly $40,000 through Northeastern University to Bridgewater State University. (2018 July)

Our collaborator Dr. Mark Williams received a $1, 000, 000 MRI grant for Acquisition of a Lumick’s Super C-TRAP correlative optical tweezers and Fluorescence Microscope (CTFM) system awarded by the National Science Foundation and we are listed as one of the 3 users of this facility.
