Lab Members

Thaya Paramanathan :  Thaya obtained his BSc (Physics) honors degree from University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka and his MS and PhD from Northeastern University, Boston. He did his postdoctoral training at Brandeis University. He served as a Lecturer at University of Jaffna and Assistant Professor at Assumption College, Worcester prior to joining Bridgewater State University in 2014. He is interested in applying physics technics to solve biological problems. Thaya is a huge PATS fan and loves to play basketball and hike.

 

Joshua Watts:  Josh is a senior double major in Physics and Chemistry and is from Brimfield, MA. He is researching a special type of Polymerase known as Pol Kappa and its binding mechanism with DNA using optical tweezers. He was awarded the Adrian Tinsley Program Summer Research Grant for the summer of 2019 and NSF funded Researh Assistantship for Summer 2021 to conduct his research. Josh loves Harry Potter, and reading in his spare time and has a second degree black belt in karate.

 

Jared McAuliffe: Jared is a junior physics major from , Massachusetts. Jared is researching relatively new anticancer drug BI-3802. Jared was awarded Adrian Tinsley Program Summer Research Grant in 2021 to carry out his research. He loves playing basketball and hiking in his spare time.

 

Joanna Gordon: Joanna is a junior majoring in Physics whos lives in Plymouth. She is a member of the Airforce. She is currently taking a semester off to serve the country.

 

Karan Patel: Karan is a junior physics major from India. He went to Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS University) before coming to BSU and plans to go to medical school after graduating from BSU. He is currently learning the skills that are needed to use optical tweezers with the plan of picking up a major project soon. Karan is a huge foodie in authentic Indian cuisine and enjoys going kayaking during vacation and likes playing football.

 

Irbaz Shaikh: Irbaz Shaikh is a junior Biology major from India with the ambition to go to medical school. He is currently learning the skills that are needed to use optical tweezers. Irbaz can speak 5 languages And he loves adventurous activities. κ’
