Regardless of their chosen field, Bridgewater State graduates must be prepared to solve problems and make persuasive arguments using the tools of mathematics and statistics. The BSU Core Curriculum, adopted in 2006, requires all students to complete at least three credits of coursework designated as satisfying the Foundations of Mathematical Reasoning requirement.
Incoming students may refer to this webpage for up-to-date information on the mathematics requirements of their major, as well information on math placement testing and introductory course offerings.
You may use this interactive tool to determine which introductory mathematics courses are required by each BSU major program. This information was last updated in March 2011.
This tool provides only general information for each program of study and may not reflect the varying requirements of specific concentrations within each program. Note that you may have to complete additional prerequisite mathematics courses prior to enrolling in your beginning core course, depending on placement.
For specific information on the requirements of each concentration, consult the Academic Programs section of the BSU Catalog.

Determining the right math course for your major is the first step; determining where you will begin your studies is the second. At BSU your math placement is determined by a combination of factors including placement test scores, SAT scores, and transfer credit.
The following tool may be used to predict your placement. Choose a course from the mathematics core curriculum, and then enter as much information about your placement factors as you know. This information will not be stored or attached to your name in any way, and this placement suggestion is not binding. The Academic Achievement Center and Department of Mathematics and Computer Science may determine actual placements.
