                   Interludes of Bliss

Somewhere between the problems and the pain,

the falling stocks, the fever with the flu,

the leaking roof, the wind directed rain,

the unreached goals, the words that were not true;

somewhere between the sorrow and the strain,

the losses that come with advancing time,

the loved ones you will never see again,

the vanished places traveled in your prime;

if interludes of bliss your wits beguile,

a party with friends, a gift in your hand,

a triumph or two, good health for a while,

scattered like gems in a vast desert land,

in these rare stones a philosophy find

and medicine for an indisposed mind.
