Fond Memories

Fond memories are better left alone.

They please with the powers of gemstones rare,

but like fragile orchids in winter grown,

they flourish only if handled with care.

Fond memories are better left alone,

concealed in box-wood mazes of the mind,

sequestered from the risks of being known,

and sheltered with specimens of their kind.

Fond memories are better left alone

beyond the reach of disquieting leers

as though entombed in temples made of stone

protected from intrusion through the years

where they survive in secret chambers hid

like treasures in a pharaoh's pyramid.
