Students investigate the
protein content of sports drinks in the context of "truth in advertising".
This module exposes students
to colorimetric assays, including the use of spectrophotometers and
micropipettes. Math skills, including graphing and linear relationships
between variables, are important in analyzing the data. Language arts
are incorporated by having students prepare letters (to the Agency that
"hired" them) describing the procedure used and the results
they obtained.
