Project
2 (UnderGrads):Data and Display
Summary:
let's practice with some more interesting stuff in GO
Due:
Wednesday OCT 21 at 11:59pm
Details:
- Create a new project. Make sure it has your name and the
fact that it is project2 in it somewhere in the project
name.
- Get this file of salary information into your project
top level folder https://gist.githubusercontent.com/chetanaramyamalampati/21faf3bb9e0607d8ddb5229274700bd3/raw/f961a1523633b975739ceb892d33a26d0014ccbd/salaries.csv
- disclaimer: This is a bunch of data
that this user collected - given that she only got
500ish salaries for 2024, it is clearly limited, but
could be interesting to examine. One note: research
analysts usually require a Ph.d even for entry level
research positions.
- include the unedited file in your git submission
- read the file in and do some data analysis
- the output should be color coded - I recommend the
library I briefly used in class: https://github.com/fatih/color
- Data analysis (when we are talking about salaries, use the US currency version of
the salary so that we can do a proper
comparison)
- first
- find all of the entry level jobs from 2024 and find
the average entry level salary from 2024
- find the average entry level salary from 2023
- in an easy to understand output, report the
two salaries, make it red text if the 2024 average is
lower than the 2023 average, otherwise use a different
color.
- second
- find all of the entry level jobs from 2024 and find
the median entry level salary from 2024 (hint use
slices.Sort)
- find the median entry level salary for 2023
- report the difference in median salaries between the two years. Report this in red if the 2023 median is higher than the 2024 median. Use another color if the 2024 median is higher. Be sure to show enough context that the user easily understands what they are looking at.
- Report the difference between the average and the median salary in a way that the user can easily understand.
- third
- Find the difference in median salary in 2024 for entry level vs mid level median salary for the same year
- report (again in a manner easy to understand) how much of a raise you might get moving from entry level to mid level
- fourth
- Certainly in the last two years fully remote jobs have become much more rare, but lets find (all for 2024 only)
- the median fully remote entry level salary
- the median onsite entry level salary
- the median fully remote salary for all levels
- the media onsite salary for all levels
- print (in a format easy to understand) these salaries. Print them in red if the median on site is higher than the median remote and in another color otherwise
- fifth
- find the median 2024 entry level salary for each job title (other than those with 'Research' as part of the title) and find the job title with the highest median salary for that year (hint you probably want to use a map from job title to either a slice of salaries of a struct for part of the solution for this one)
- report (in an easy to understand text) the highest paying entry level job in one color, then the next four high paying jobs in another color.
- Make a readme.md
- explain in the readme
- how to use the program
- how to understand the output.
- what the colors represent in your solution.
- anything that you didn't complete
Submitting the project.
submit the project by putting it on github and sending me a collaboration
invite.
