Dr. Clark's PowerPoint presentation on Fieldwork

This course provides a survey of spatial problems and an examination of various techniques that geographers use to define, research, and analyze geographic issues and phenomena. Students will learn to identify real-life geographic problems at a range of spatial scales, from the local to the global. Instructional methods will emphasize hands-on exposure through local field trips, access to library resources, instrumentation, basic surveying, and professional presentation skills.

The emphasis will be on identifying and articulating spatial research questions and then proceeding to frame alternative research approaches. The course aims to help prepare students become professional geographers by addressing real world issues through application of geographic techniques.

Much of the class time will be spent defining geographic research problems and learning about the application of geographic techniques in a wide range of subspecialties within the discipline. Students will develop the toolbox of fundamental skills needed to succeed in the field of geography.
