This is the majestic Great Fish River in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa.

During the 19th century, it was a focal point of the wars between European settlers and indigenous African people. At one point it was the border or "frontier" between these groups. Europeans extended across the river in often heated battles and they colonized the region to the right, the area north of the river.
