HISTORY OF IMMIGRATION

Just what does it mean to become an "American" and how has that meaning changed over time? In this week-long institute, we explored this question from a variety of angles including immigration policy, immigration waves, the "first" immigrants and cultural contact, slavery (those who had no choice), specific groups including French-Canadians, Asian-Americans, the Portuguese, and Somalians, and also showcase multiple teaching strategies (visual, local history, oral history, and so on).
