Molecular Solids:

Made up of discrete molecules, not ions, that only interact with each other through intermolecular forces.

Some examples of molecular solids:

• Water, H₂O
  
  
• Elemental sulfur, S₈
  
  
• Octane, C₈H₁₈
  
  
• Phosgene, OCCl₂
  
  
• Glycerol, HOCH(CH₂OH)₂

Consider what the intermolecular forces are for each of these molecules.

• Buckminister Fullerene, C₆₀, "bucky ball"
  
  
• Hemeglobin
