A FRIENDLY "How are you" is sent to each and every one of my 90+ students in Learning and Motivation.
Hope you are enjoying the show so far.
Different kind of college course, wouldn't you say? lol
But if you do your work it's not so bad--sometimes challenging and fun too! Do you agree?
So far, as your instructor, I have no complaints. I can't find a slacker or skater in the bunch.
I'm looking...
Wonderful..keep it up and thank you for all you do!
We enter Week 5 of the semester.
How many weeks until Spring vacation? Wait, let me fetch my calendar , low tech as it is, and count.
THREE weeks!
Only 3 ... and one is a short week for some (Presidents Day).
We'll have to keep moving as fast as we can realistically.
By Spring vacation, we will have completed the first 3 modules--except of course you will use an evaluative instrument (the EI) from Mod 3 in your field work for the course.
But the EI will be fully operational by then.
Mod 4, the other field work module, may not be completed by Spring break. I do not think this will become a major problem for you then, though. Relax, we are going to be OK all around.
One day at a time, one class at a time. We inch forward.
------------------------------------
Frequent question these days: When are we going to critique the Mod 2 Microsoft lessons?
ANSWER: Not until next week.
Why so long, Dr. Z?
ANSWER: Because we must wait for all in Section 4 of ED 23 5to post their lessons on Blackboard.
Section 4, meeting only once a week on Mondays, didn't start the course until almost a week after my other 3 sections.
In effect, they are a week behind. Not their fault....just a quirk of scheduling.
To go on, since your Microsoft lessons on BB are categorized by subject (all math lessons go here, all English lessons there and so forth), the Section 4 lessons will mingle with lessons from the other 3 sections. This will take another week to accomplish.
Once ALL are posted we start critiquing. I will show you how later. You will be assigned specific lessons within your BB forum to critique.
Next week will be "Critiquing Week" in Maxwell. Not only will the Microsoft lessons be ready to critique by then, but your Mod 3 Evaluative Instruments will be ready too. There won't be any lag time for critiquing the EIs like there was for the Microsoft lessons.
It will all fall into place neatly--next week.
Not to fret.
In the meantime, we build Module 3's EI this week in class.
Multitasking rules these days!
----------------------------------
Preparing for Maxwell Classes this week:
BEFORE class...
1. Get the Mod 3 specifications into your notebook if not done already please.
2. View the Youtube BIG THINKERS carefully, start to finish. this is an important and revealing vid. Pay attention start to finish.
3. Look over the major project for Mod 3--building the EI. You will have 2 Maxwell classes or sessions this week to get the job done and get your EI posted on BB. Don't try and do it yourself this weekend; it is to be a team affair.
Appropriate BB forums to feature your EIs will be built soon.
4. Go to the ADDENDUM of Mod 3--on Content Standards.
There are 3 links there. Hit all 3 please.
Spend some time on each. What's going down? What's happening?
Be informed; be smart.
**I will ask you whether you got the above done by first Maxwell class. YES or NO on a sheet of notebook paper. Get yourself to where where you can say YES unequivocally. Integrity counts!
In the meantime, I'll go check my incoming email to see if any more of your Kampler lesson plan quizzes have reached me.
So far, there are going good.
THANKS!
Dr. Z

Greetings ED 235 fans!
Well, January passed quickly and here we are, digging into February.
Our first major goal will be to get Mods 1, 2, 3 and 4 completed by our Spring vacation. Mods 3 and 4, as you may know by now, are the field work modules (along with Mod 10, the summary or concluding module). We want to get Mods 3 and 4 completed so you will know what to do vacation week if you do your field work at that time. So many of you will. Great time to get it done.
Super Bowl Weekend, eh.
Geez, I don't know who to root for!
I grew up in Connecticut where everyone in the 1950s was a rabid Giants fan. I lived for the "Giants". Knew the stats on every player. My dad would take me to an occasional game and also to one of their preseason training camp sessions at Fairfield University in Connecticut where one could see the players up close.
There was little TV coverage those days and important games were "blacked out" from normal TV. Thus rabid fans would either go to a bar on Sunday to watch the game or rent a motel room for the same purpose. Certain establishments could afford a special TV hookup. I can remember vividly about 20 men and a few kids (including me) stuffed into a small motel room, all focused on a small, round, black and white TV. The "Jints" lost to Colts that day--the Baltimore Colts.
But I live in Massachusetts now and have been slowly becoming a solid Pats fan over the years. I happened to see the very first Patriots game ever played, circa 1961. I think it was on a Friday night at Braves Field (now torn down). There were about 15,000 people at most in attendance, so small in scale compared to today's standards. I can still remember a man (mascot) in a Patriots suit walking around the field shooting his firearm into the air every once in a while. That tradition continues to this day. They played Buffalo, I recall, and won.
I was in Boston at the time being trained to be a detail man for a pharmaceutical company. I hated the job and didn't last long doing it. So I decided to try something else--I would become a teacher!
And here I am! lol
GO PATS!!

Preparing for a Week of Classes in Maxwell
1. For First class (session) of the week:
Continue to think about and build your Microsoft lesson as per the Mod 2 specifications.
You will be given one more class hour to work on the project in Maxwell. You've already had 2 sessions; hope you got of to a good start on the assignment.
Use your Maxwell time well.
2. For Second class (session) of the week:
You will take your second quiz of the semester.
It will be on the seminal online selection you must read in Module 3. "Five Standards of Authentic Instruction"
Yep, Mod 3.
While we pause in Mod 2 while all the Microsoft lessons are posted on the proper Blackboard forums during first class of the week, we move seamlessly to Mod 3 and keep moving.
Thus we will find it necessary to work on 2 modules simultaneously--# 2 and 3. Multi-tasking.
The quiz will be very much like the first; you email it to me PASS/FAIL 5-4-3-2-1-0
**Come to your second Maxwell class this week prepared: that means you have READ the Newmann and Wehlage article BEFORE class.
B-E-F-O-R-E!!!!
Otherwise, you will have to go SOLO on the quiz.
NEXT WEEK: We go back to Mod 2 and critique the Microsoft lessons posted on BB in earnest. The Blackboard forums to house your Microsoft lesson are now up there and ready to go. Check them out please.
Details on the worksheets your Runner fetches at the start of every Maxwell class.
That's about it for today.
GO PATS!!
