COMMENTS: ED 235 |
STUDENTS: Look for important schedule changes for Maxwell classes this coming week in the comments below. Thank you.
The Saturday before Thanksgiving...
...and all is well with me, dear students. How about you?
Doing fine I hope.
We are now well past the middle of November and getting precariously close to the end of the little adventure we shared in ED 235.
Be careful, though. Don't fall off the edge.
Stay alert and keep your balance!

The Schedule This Week in Maxwell:
Section 1 meets Monday and Monday only.
Section 2 meets on Tuesday
Section 3, my "orphaned" section, once again is left out in the cold, fending as best they can without benefit of a Maxwell hour.
However, Section 3 students have been informed on what's coming (Module 9) and know that Act 3 must be written. Details were given teams on last Wednesday's Maxwell worksheet.
Section 3 student: Please--please --please do EVERYTHING you can personality to move along the business of the team or subteam on the Chappuis Act 3 assignment. Don't be a drag on your team, OK?
Thanks!

Old Work:
The BB forum on Cooperative Learning continues. Have you done your part?
I'll inquire later.
And what about your CRITIQUING obligations? Face them!
------------------------------
Preparing for Act 3:
1. Get a hardcopy of Mod 9 into your Notebook, please.
2. Read the specifications to this new mod. All Chappuis, all formative evaluation (or AfL as the British prefer) all the time. But why?
'cause RESEARCH suggests that in a current public school environment heavily influenced by external testing (MCAS for us; the Brits have their own
high-pressure exam), teaching in the manner of the 3-pronged (7 strategied) Chappuis model produces higher academic achievement as evidenced by higher average scores on testing compared to most other forms of secondary level teaching.
That's the bottom line.
And, as stated already, British teachers as a rule are better at AfL than we are. Or it appears so.
3. Sections 1 and 2: the pre-Thanksgiving Maxwell worksheet will structure Act 3 for you. TY.
------------
Beyond Act 3:
1.Students: It is important to me that each of you views and contemplates EACH of the videos inserted into mods 7, 8, 9.
Each. Every one. Total viewing time? Less than 30 minutes...a bargain!
At least 3 are British in origin and show you dramatically how Assessment for Learning (AfL) plays out in the classroom.
View these videos and you will see the Chappuis model come to life.
High quality teacher questioning, cooperative pairs, promoting metacognitive awareness and self direction, pupil by pupil, it's all good!
I currently supervise just about all the English majors during their student teacher practica.
If I supervise you, I will expect YOU to teach like these British teachers.
Why? Because it is better teaching. State of the art.
2. The ADDENDA in Modules 7, 8 and 9: How about giving my essays there a "go"? Occasionally a student emails me or otherwise informs me he/she found meaning in what I say somewhere in the adenda. Maybe something will "click" with you too. Never know.
Read!!!

I wish all a peaceful and memorable day.
