Springtime at the Office
Confined in my office as in a hole,
beneath a blizzard of memos and forms,
with as much life as stirs a dormant mole
dreaming of past springs below winter storms,
I ponder petty problems and assume
that no mere movement of the spinning globe
can penetrate this deeply buried tomb;
when I am stricken by a vernal probe
followed shortly by waves of sheer delight
with warmth that melts the frozen parts of me
exciting next a sudden surge of might
like that of swollen rivers to the sea;
and I can only wonder at the way
that spring still claims this sodden lump of clay.
