This year’s ninth-graders will take the 10th-grade MCAS for the first time in May 2001. Those who don’t pass by the spring of their senior year, 2003 will be denied a high school diploma.

Also, students in Massachusetts will no longer be able to meet graduation requirements by passing the GED.
