Article I. Name

 

The name of the organization shall be Reviving Environmental and Political Sense (REAPS). 

 

Article II. Purpose

 

The purpose of this organization shall be to provide the Bridgewater State College community with opportunities to build a community on the premises of peace and respect.

 

Article III. Membership

 

Membership in REAPS is open to all students, faculty and campus community who has paid the mandated SGA fee.  Membership is indiscriminative of sex, age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disabilities, religious or political affiliation.

 

Article IV.  Elected Membership – Executive Board

 

Section (1)             The Executive board of REAPS will consist of Coordinator, Publicity and Social Activities Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer.

 

Section (2)        The duties of said Executive Board shall be:

 

A.    The Coordinator shall direct affairs of the group; perform duties of Parliamentarian, mandating the Constitution is being upheld, and organize meeting agendas prior to meetings.  In the absence of the Treasurer, the Coordinator shall have the authority to sign vouchers and all other duties of the Treasurer.

 

B.     The Publicity and Social Activities Chair (PASAC) shall handle all promotional affairs including advertising and press releases as well as directing the social activities of the organization.  The PASAC shall have all the duties of the Coordinator when acting in the Coordinator’s absence.

 

C.    The Secretary shall keep all records up to date, record the minutes at meetings, as well as emailing minutes of the meeting and meeting agendas to all members.  In the absence of the PASAC, the Secretary shall perform all the PASAC’s duties.

 

D.    The Treasurer shall keep all records of financial transactions, have accounts for auditing at all times, present complete financial statements to all officers at any time.  In the absence of the Secretary, the Treasurer shall perform the duties of the Secretary.

 

Article V. Club Business

 

All elections and club business shall be held in accordance with the SGA Constitution and guidelines concerning recognized student organizations.

 

Article VI. Voting

 

The SGA Constitution explicitly provides that no non-members may take part in matters relating to organizational funds.

 

Section (1)             Those things defined in the Constitution as requiring consensus shall be voted upon in the Yes No ‘Maybe So’ Voting system.  All other issues shall be voted upon by majority rules, unless there is considerable objection, which is defined as such strong opposition that members will leave the group.

 

Section (2)             First vote shall be a vocal “Yay” or “Nay.”  If vote is not unanimous in either direction, there shall be group discussion and then a second vocal “Yay” or “Nay.”  Again if vote does not produce a unanimous resolution, there shall be another group discussion.  After discussion there will be the Yes No ‘Maybe So’ Voting System will be implemented.

 

Section (3)             If after three votes a resolution has not been met, then Meeting Chair shall ask a committee of three or more members to find alternatives and define objections of issue for discussion at next meeting.  There shall be no more than three votes per meeting on one issue.  Issue shall then be voted upon again at the next meeting.

 

Section (4)             The Yes No ‘Maybe So’ Voting system is a system in which each voter may vote “Yes,” meaning most supportive with a value of 2; “Yes/No,” meaning supportive with a value of 1; not vote meaning unsupportive with a value of 0; or “No” meaning unsupportive and opposed with a value of -2.  When voting on more than one item the item with the highest value shall be accepted, unless there the proposal has not received more support from voters than opposition.

 

Article VII.  Meetings

 

Section (1)        The Executive Board shall meet at least once a month.

 

Section (2)             Regular meetings shall be held at least once a week during the academic year.

 

Section (3)             Meeting Chair

 

A.    Chair of meetings will alternate on a weekly basis.  It will be determined who shall chair alphabetically, by last name.  If a new member joins the group after it would be their turn in the rotation the will be added to the next cycle.  If a member does not want to chair the meeting, then they have the right to defer chair until they feel comfortable.

 

B.     Duties of the Meeting Chair shall include upholding order of the meeting, keeping to agenda, allowing everyone to speak in an orderly fashion, reserves the right to call votes if necessary, and calling the meeting to an end.

 

Article VIII. Elections

 

Section (1)             Elections of Executive Board shall take place the second to last meeting of every semester to ensure that an Executive Board is determined by the end of the semester.

 

Section (2)             The candidates shall be voted in by consensus.

 

Section (3)             In the event of an office vacancy after official elections, a special election shall be held for substitutes.

 

Article IX. Impeachment of Executive Board

 

Section (1)             Impeachment charges may be initiated against any officer by any member of the organization and must be put in writing.

 

Section (2)        The charges shall be voted upon at the meeting by consensus.

 

Section (3)             The officer being impeached shall be removed from office if consensus has been reached.

 

Article X. Ratification of the Constitution

 

Amendment and ratification to this Constitution shall be voted upon by consensus by membership at a special meeting.
