My name is Marianne Franklin and I am pursuing a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Reading from Bridgewater State College. As an educator, I have worked as a First Grade teacher and Second Grade teacher, a Remedial Reading teacher, a Title I Reading teacher/Reading Recovery teacher, a Title I Building Coordinator, and a Reading Specialist for the Sandwich School District. I have also worked as a BayState Reading Coordinator and then a Literacy Coach for the Bourne School District. Currently I am a Consulting Teacher of Reading at the Federal Furnace School in Plymouth, Massachusetts and an adjunct professor at Bridgewater State College. Throughout my career, teaching reading has been my passion. I have become especially interested in helping struggling readers to become independent readers. My belief is that teachers must look at not only a child's weaknesses, but also the child's strengths in literacy. Additionally, teachers must stress the reading-writing connection. I believe every child can become a reader.
