Dear Sir,
At the suggestion of Mr Mc Intosh, and upon further relection and examination myself I have become satisfied that your understanding with Mr read before his death for the purchase of the oranges, was not valid in law unless there was a memorandum of the agreement between you in writing, or unless something was paid to him as earnest money to bind the bargain. - but that it is void by our statute; With the supposition that neither of these contingencies occurred, at the instance of Mrs Read, and to prevent dispute between you I have made an order for the sale of the oranges which I send by Mr McIntosh. If however the contract was in writing or earnest money was paid by you, it is still binding and the order may be disregarded; I am inclined to think however your interests will not suffer by a sale.
Yours truly
