First Generation

1. Gibrand Bernard FERNETY was born in 1864 in Nice, France or Lebanon. Gibrand Bernard FERNETY and Mary HADDAD were married. Mary HADDAD was born in 1862 in Marseilles, France or Lebanon.

According to Gabriel Fernety, the grandson of Gibrand Fernety:

Gibrand was born in Nice, France. His wife, Mary Haddad, was born in Marseille, France. She was half French and half Turkish and Lebanese.
[The 1920 US Census lists both of them as being "Syrian" (Lebanon didn't exist? yet) AND both of their parents as being "Syrian," too.]

Gibrand had a brother who was a Capuchin monk somewhere in France and another brother who helped build the railroad from Alexandria to Cairo, Egypt sometime in the 1800's.

Gibrand and Mary came to the US around 1886. They worked in the circus in the Jacksonville, Florida area. Gibran's three sons spent some time in France at a school run by Gibran's brother (a "Father Jacques"). Gibran's daughter, Catherine, became a cloistered nun of the Capuchin Order, and was in Nimes, France most of her life.

Jasmine HADDAD was born in 1891 in Lebanon. She died in 1969 in Jacksonville, Florida. Beatrix (Peter) FERNETY and Jasmine HADDAD had the following children:

3. Bolice Paul FERNETY (Gibrand Bernard-1) was born in 1894 in Jacksonville, Florida. He died in 1968 in California. Bolice Paul FERNETY and Rosina OXBORROW were married. Rosina OXBORROW was born in 1893 in England. She died in 1981 in California. Bolice Paul FERNETY and Rosina OXBORROW had the following children:

Rosa HADDAD (daughter of Boutros ("Peter") HADDAD and Chames ("Sun")) was born in 1888 in Ghazir, Lebanon. She died in Jacksonville, Florida. Rosa's mother's maiden name was HADDAD, too. Joseph FERNETY and Rosa HADDAD had the following children:

Joseph FERNETY and Anna Hoffman were married in Texas?. Anna Hoffman. was born in 1890 in Missouri. She died in Terre Haute, Indiana. Joseph FERNETY and Anna Hoffman. adopted the following child:

Joseph abandoned his wife (Rosa Haddad, my great grandmother) and children in Jacksonville. He married Anna Hoffman, committing bigamy. They adopted a daughter, Geraldine. Joseph ended up shooting and killing his wife Anna, and then himself. The whole sordid story, in detail, was reported in the Terre Haute Tribune in 1922.
