The assignment for this project was to design a calendar that structures time in a unique way and has a theme. I decided I wanted my calendar to be about movement and color.

When I began this assignment I knew that I wanted to work with wire so I started to make sketches of abstract shapes that reflected movement in each month. I was going to make a uniquely shaped piece of wire for each month and hang the days from that wire on string like a mobile. I changed my mind though and decided to make one big shaped wire piece to hang all the months from. I also discovered that it would be better to hang the days from wire instead of string because that way the days don’t get turned in different directions constantly.

As a way of organizing the days of the week for each month I created a color-coding system so that each day of the week is a different color and that remains the same for all the months. Then I made a key by cutting out squares that were colored with a letter or two to indicate the day.

I feel like this assignment helped me think about organization and trying to create clarity in design.
