Committee meeting May 16th 2006
Attending: John Santore, Glenn Pavlicek , Toby Lorenzen, Lee Mondshein, Abdul Sattar
Committee business and decisions:
The committee examined the initial results of the dry run of our data
collection. We found that it went better than expected. However, there
were some improvements on the the data collection technique that we
agreed on. We have agreed to add the following to the folder prepared
for each class
- A short narrative for each class explaining what can be found in the folder and the topics covered.
- We will include a syllabus for each class.
- The syllabus will be broken down week by week and have topics listed for each week
- The topics will use both plain English and an ABET knowledge
unit code along with the hours spent on the topics covered by that code
- We need not give these annotated syllabi to the students, we only need have them for the final documentation in the folders.
- We will label homeworks and other in and out of class work with the knowledge unit code(s) that this homework covers
- We will annotate exams on a section by section basis with the knowlege unit codes.
There were also some topics that we did not resolve in the meeting and must discuss further
- There are several knowlege unit topics that are
spread over several classes. Most of these multi-class knowledge units
include at least one of comp 101 or comp102 and one other class. We
will by email and in our next meeting decide which learning objectives
will be assigned to each class. We will start with comp 101 and 102
since these classes represent the lions share of the overlap.
We will meet again in June at a time that the largest number of committee members can attend.
We will also meet in the second week of the semester to look at
beginning the data collection for real for at least a few classes.
