Committee meeting Feb 3rd 2006
Attending: John Santore, Zon-I Chang, Toby Lorenzen , Lee Mondshein
Committee business and decisions:
This semester we will do a "dry run" of collecting data on the required
classes for the future site visit. Each computer science faculty member
who is teaching a required Computer science class will compile
documentation (according to ABET format) to show that we do teach and
asses the core body of knowledge units that are required. (And that we
do so in the courses that we have agreed to teach them in). It is
expected that such a major undertaking will have some snags and
problems, which is why this semester is a dry run. The materials will
be examined on a monthly-ish basis by John and Dick Quindly at least.
The folders will be placed in a public place so that everyone can see
the techniques used by their colleges and add anything that seems
interesting to their own collection and presentation styles.
We will be using copies of the original papers in compiling the
documentation. It was decided that we should return the students'
original work to them, and just use copies for our documentation. This
requires us to make our comments stand out from the original student
work on the assesment documents. The department will get each
faculty member yellow hi-lighters to make their comments particularly
visible. The department will also get colored stickers to use to mark
the good|average|poor student papers.
The materals will be revied periodically twice before the semester ends
by John, Toby and the department chair. The reviewers will examine the
materials and note which knowlege units they think have been proven so
that the professors doing the evaluation will have some feed back from
an outside source about what appears to be proven.
John's proposed a draft of a recitation section syllabus to the group and recieved feed back for changes to make.
