•Make
sure the site is about something – that is, that it has meaningful
content.
•Use your web-page editor to add a descriptive title and
keywords that are relevant to each page of your web site, especially the main
page.
•Make sure that links are meaningful. “Click here” is
meaningless.
Click here for my giraffe page
is not as good as
My giraffe page describes the natural history of giraffes.
•Keywords should include synonyms and common misspellings.
For example, results of a search on “enviornment” will not include a page
that does not have at least one instance of that misspelling.
•The wording of the very first line of text is the most
important.
•Make sure you name images for what they are (giraffe.jpg,
not image.jpg) and add the alternative labels to all images. These labels
help with search engine placement and with accessibility for
visually-impaired or blind readers.
