Halloween 2000

At first this just looks like three geography professors enjoying some Halloween fun. Of course, only a Robinson projection will do!

Look more closely, however, and you will see that I was actually planning a lesson in plate tectonics. Compare the form of my head to that of the northwestern coast of North America, and you may be led -- just as Alfred Wegener was -- to conclude that the former has been drifting away from the latter. This, of course, suggests a previously unrecognized spreading ridge nearly 1,000 kilometers off our coast!

Here I am later that day, trick-or-treating with Wilma and Pebbles at the home of our friends Susan and Joe.
