Friday Night Lights is an appealing movie to anyone who is interested in a dramatic comedy about sports. I would recommend this as a family movie and also to high school or college students who have an interest or play sports because manages to show how teenagers bond, build disciple, teamwork and teaches life lessons while still letting you have fun. It gives you an emotionally fulfilling experience and I would recommend it to you as a must see movie.
Friday Night Lights

Friday Night Lights, directed by Peter Berg gives you a story based on true events about a town, a team and a dream. It shows a realistic look at a small town’s football team who are under unrelenting pressure to live up to impossibly high expectations. Most all of us have played some type of organized sport and you’ve seen the parents on the sideline that are screaming at the top of there lungs and cheering you on every step of the way. Well those are like the fans of Odessa, Texas during the 1988 football season brought to life in "Friday Night Lights." The actors who play featured roles are; Derek Luke, Lee Jackson, Lee Thompson Young, Garrett Hedlund, Lucas Black and country star Tim McGraw are totally believable throughout the whole movie and provide the film with heart, but it’s really the game of football itself that’s the shinning star of this Hollywood production.
Friday Night Lights is one of the best movies about high school sports made in a long time. It shows the competitive nature of both the kids and there parents, the pressure put on athletes to perform, and the high price that needs to be done to excel at all levels. Like nearly all sports movies, Friday Night Lights is about redemption. In the die-hard football town of Odessa, the Permian panthers are one of the elite high school team of West Texas. Sunday mornings are for church and Friday night is for football. Odessa is a small town with a tradition of winning and football helps them to boost morale, in the city that is just struggling to survive. There are hopes for an undefeated season, and the state championship is almost a given. With a player as talented as James "Boobie" Miles played by (Derek Luke), the concept of a loss is inconceivable until Boobie goes down with a severe knee injury in the first game of the season. Now his teammates need to step it up. Friday Night Lights is about the pressure to win. The team needs to overcome this game by game so that they can be part of another Panthers championship team.
There are positive and negative parts to every motion picture and everybody will have different views. One thing I especially liked about this movie is that in most sports movies the big game is what it all comes down to it’s the dramatic end point of the movie and that’s what everyone has been waiting for. But in this movie the game is just a means by which what really matters come into focus. It’s less about what happens on the field than in the hearts of the players.
After all, I believe that most sports fans especially football players will find Friday Night Lights an enjoyable and thrilling movie. It teaches many lessons to children and parents about the pressure in high school sports and I believe a lot can be learned from seeing it. Friday Night Lights is a serious drama film receiving 8 out of 10 stars and is definitely worth a Friday night look.
