The Data Encryption Standard and the Advanced Encryption Standard are NIST standard private key encryption systems that are used to secretly send millions of messages containing information from bank transfers, credit cards, government secrets, business deals and emails every day. We will introduce these methods and follow every bit of them as they attempt to mix messages with keys and noise to protect information. Although most of the techniques require only basic operations we will see some surprises, including hexadecimal bytes of a Galois Field.
