Title: A Quantitative "Habit of Mind"
Abstract

By most definitions, quantitative literacy is more than a set of mathematical, statistical, and critical reasoning skills; it is also a "habit of mind" that leads one to activate those skills — even when your boss, your banker, or your professor haven’t asked you to! What does the quantitative habit of mind look like? Can it be measured? And to what extent do college students possess it? In this seminar we’ll review a selection of studies from the literature as well as some preliminary data from a 2013 assessment of incoming BSU freshmen that may hint at some answers.
