Week 1: Describe how you would plan a pizza party for your class.
Week 2: List the different math topics and skills used in this project, then sort them into categories using the strands in the NCTM Standards (Number & Operations, Algebra, Geometry, Measurement, Data Analysis & Probability, Problem Solving, Reasoning & Proof, Communication, Connections, Representation). A topic or skill may be listed under more than one strand.
Week 3: What changes would you make to this project in order to use it in your class? (Do your students know the formula for the area of a circle? Is it feasible to have a pizza party in your class? Is there a unit in which it would be especially helpful to discuss quantities such as price per square inch?)
Week 4: At what point in your school year would you use this project, and what form would it take? (Would you use this as an ongoing project in which students research pizza prices, design charts, and give reports on relative prices then vote on a solution and order pizza, or would you make it a question on a quiz?)
