A Tribute to Dr. Glenn Miller (1953-2002)

Friend, Geographer, Teacher, Rock Music Fan

  A biographical sketch

Bridgewater State College now has a permanent memorial to Dr.Glenn Miller, teacher, colleague, and friend.

A granite globe (it had to be a globe!) was dedication at a ceremony on September 16, 2004. Click here for an article on the globe dedication. The granite globe is located in the garden next to the Science Building.

This was a follow-up to an earlier (2002) event when his life and work was also celebrated. Here are some photos taken at the 2002 Miller celebration event.

My eyes have started flooding and I haven't even thought of where to begin.

I guess what I will remember Dr. Miller most for was his sense of humor. I

will never forget Halloween my senior year ...

His unique combination of professionalism, drive, ambition and sense of humor always ensured a thorough and enjoyable period of instruction. .

I do believe that his love of geography now has him circling the globe in search of new territory ...

Dr. Miller always had a smile and a big hello even if he was in a hurry.. I will always fondly remember him as

             one of my favorite Professors..

I feel very lucky to have experienced Dr. Miller's love of Geography during Spring semester 2002.This great love was obvious in every class he taught. He approached the subject with humor and enthusiasm ...

Someone who's passion and dedication convinced me that geography was the major to chose ...

Three words to describe Dr. Miller: Father. Teacher. Friend ...

I will always remember his love for humor (two costumes that come to mind are the "udderly funny" cow and his take on road kill!) his love for his college community and students ...

He has always been warm, welcoming, passionate about his chosen field, professional and courageous ...

The world is a lonelier place without him, but there are countless students who are better people for having known him ...

I am ... truly thankful for the professional and personal relationship which we shared.  I will miss his smile and gentle laugh but be thankful for what he taught me: to be curious, caring and committed about life.

He saw outreach work as a great part of his calling ..He felt professors shouldn't be confined just to a campus.. (article from Bridgewater Today)

Thank you Dr. Miller for sharing your love of Geography and teaching with all your students. I will be forever be grateful for your encouragement ...

His influence will persist because of what he gave to everyone else and his words and actions will continue to inspire...

I feel privileged to have been part of  his last class. His class was a joy. It was special, because he was.

He always put his students first and foremost ...he seemed like a friend, not a typical professor and as so many know, he always took the time to smile and say hello.

Glenn also helped make Halloween an occasion never to forget on this campus!  He would always dress in style - his own unique style!  It was absolutely wonderful to share a child’s holiday with an adult who could enjoy the season with an endless abundance of spirit, joy, and a sense of impishness!  The more impish, the better he liked it!

I am privileged to be able to call him a friend and feel blessed knowing how lucky I am because he was a part my life ...

Who else would ask if you could list the five disciplines of Geography between innings? And as far as pitching went, well, it's location, location, location! I have no doubt that I would not be in the wonderful position I am now if it were not for him.
