Desired Outcomes of Music
Department's General Education Courses
- Students will develop writing
and critical thinking skills through attention to musical works and
ideas.
- Students will acquire musical
literacy, including reading and using musical notation, in performance
and composition.
- Students will cultivate
aptitude for the art of musical performance.
- Students will develop enhanced
analytical skills in listening, including recognition of musical forms
and styles.
- Students will gain knowledge
of non-western cultures and traditions.
- Students will develop enhanced
technological literacy, with practical applications in music.
- Students will develop an
awareness of current and popular trends in music. This is not an outcome
we've cared about much before.
- Students will gain an understanding
of creative processes and products and their sociological, political
and cultural impacts.
