No-cost Software Options

While the "official" CHEM 100 software packages are Microsoft's Office suite and Cambridgesoft's Chemoffice suite, I am aware that these programs are expensive and not always available when students graduate. Thus, here is a list of alternatives that are freely available.

Please note, that I have not personally used most of these programs and so can offer nothing more than this list.

Microsoft Office

OpenOffice Available for Mac, Windows and Linux
2-D Structure Drawing

Marvin Available for Mac, Windows and Linux
  ChemSketch

Windows only
3-D Structure Display Jmol A more modern alternative to RasMol; available for Mac, Windows and Linux
DS Viewer Windows and Linux only
Avagadro Available for Mac, Windows and Linux
RasMol An old standby; available for Mac, Windows and Linux
