- A molecular formula is a list of the types and number of atoms making up each molecule of a compound.
- For example, molecules that are made up of four (4) carbon atoms and ten (10) hydrogen atoms all have the molecular formula: C4H10.
- Likewise, compounds with the molecular C3H8O are all composed of molecules containing three (3) carbon atoms, eight (8) hydrogen atoms and one (1) oxygen atom.
