Self-Portrait
Collage Assignment

| 1. Use a 4 inch by 8 inch picture plane. |
| 2. Create a self-portrait collage using the full figure.
Since this collage is about you, the colors, textures, setting and objects included
should reflect who you are. This collage will be representational. |
| 3. Address the edges of the picture plane by having the
figure touch three edges of the picture plane. |
| 4. Your medium for this collage will be magazine paper or other
papers of your choice. |
| 5. Place your figure in a setting appropriate for your
self-portrait. |

6. Leave no spaces within the picture plane
uncovered by
collage materials.
| 7. The work will be abstract, however, not so abstract
that the figure is not identifiable as a person. |
| 8. Your collage must use one of the following color
harmonies: |

| 9. Choose colors that have symbolic or personal meaning
for you or that you feel have a universal meaning. |
| 10. Describe the meaning of your color choices and your use
of images in your artwork. ( One page typed) |
| 11. Find on the web or
in books 3 examples of self portraits done by professional
artists. Include a print or photocopy of each example. |
