The links listed below are a few of the available resources that are of interest to those involved in the teaching oh phonics, phonological awareness, and phonemic awareness. Through the individual sites, you may access public policy, research information, and activities that support these skills. The Starfall learn-to-read website is offered free as a public service. The website provides writing journals and books at nominal costs that can be used along with the website or separately. The site is primarily designed for first grade but can be helpful to pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and second grade. Reading Rockets offers a wealth of strategies, lessons, and activities designed to help young children learn to read. The site assists parents, teachers, and other educators in working with struggling readers who require additional help in reading and comprehension skills development Reading A-Z is an on-line reading site that offers thousands of printable teacher materials to teach guided reading, phonemic awareness, reading comprehension, reading fluency, alphabet, and vocabulary. The teaching resources include professionally developed downloadable leveled books, lesson plans, worksheets, and reading assessments. This site gives you access to a variety of content area materials including the area of phonics and word lists. Learning Page provides a huge collection of professionally produced instructional materials you can download and print. Lesson plans, books, worksheets, and much more can be found here. Between the Lions is produced by WGBH Boston, Sirius Thinking, Ltd., and Mississippi Public Broadcasting, and is funded in part by a Ready To Learn Television Cooperative Agreement from the US Department of Education through the Public Broadcasting Service, and by the Barksdale Reading Institute. ReadWriteThink is a partnership between the International Reading Association (IRA), the National Council of treachers of English (NCTE) and the MarcoPolo Education Foundation. This web source gives access to high quality practices and resources in reading and language arts. The site contains lessons, standards, web resources, and materials for students in grades K-12. The International Reading Association site is a professional resource for those involved in or working with helping others learn to read. The network provides for information on professional development, as well as research, practice, and policy associated with reading. Through professional development, research, publications, and advocacy for the literacy community, the MRA promotes reading and writing for all learners. This organization supports the mission of the International Reading Association. This site ( North Central Regional Educational Laboratory) is a source that is funded by the U.S. Department of Education as a regional educational laboratory. NCREL is dedicated to providing high-quality, research-based resources to educators and policymakers.
