RE:
Accounting curriculum
DATE:
October 30, 2000
In
order to comply with the new Accounting Certification rules in Massachusetts and
to better serve our students, the following modifications to our program will be
implemented.
Effective,
Fall-2001, Accounting Theory (AF-492) will be offered during the FALL semester.
In order to avoid inconveniencing our students, we will gradually phase
in this change over the next three semesters.
We
will offer a day section of AF-492 during the upcoming Spring 2001
semester, and we will offer an evening section of AF-492 during Spring of
2002. After July,
2002, AF-492 will only be offered during the Fall semester.
Moving AF-492 to the Fall semester will serve to better balance Fall and
Spring Accounting requirements and will also allow many of our students to
graduate earlier.
Effective
immediately, we are also modifying the prerequisite necessary to
register for AF-492. The new
prerequisite to register for AF-492 will be AF-341. Currently, the college catalog (and computerized registration
system) indicates that AF-460 (Advanced Accounting) is the prerequisite for
AF-492.
Unfortunately,
in the short-run, we will be unable to "officially" change the
prereq in the catalog or computerized prereq-checking,
registration system. To
circumvent this problem, students who have completed AF-341, but have NOT
completed AF-460, may receive a Prereq-override form, thus allowing them to
register for AF-492. Students
in this situation may contact Department Assistant, Stephanie Chaves in L-229,
to receive the signed permission form required for registration.
The below schedule outlines our planned offerings
for selected upper-level accounting courses:
