You REALLY CAN do almost anything! With a degree in communication, you can do almost anything you want! The advantage of the degree is that you learn the skills employers list as most important-speaking, teamwork, listening, presentation, and more. Here are just some of the multitude of possible careers. Teacher/ Professor/ Educator - No matter what level of education interests you, communication is probably your most important skill. In the classroom you are a presenter ? and a good leader and an interpersonal communicator. In fact, the classroom may be the ultimate multiple communication environment! No matter what the content area or grade level, you need to know how to communicate. This is an excellent "double major" for all educator "majors." There are other areas in education that you may want to pursue. You may want to work in a college / university / school environment as a director of information, educational fundraiser, alumni officer, student affairs specialist, administrator and more. Television / Radio / Electronic Media - Do you want to be in front of the camera / microphone or behind? With a degree in communication, you can learn to do both. You can also work in other areas of the media, including director, station manager, disc jockey, news anchor, talk show host (and interview all of your friends from BSC), writer, director, and more. Public Relations - You might be the person who manages the public image of an organization or individual. This degree may prepare you to be celebrity's publicist, or work for Microsoft. You can work in the US or internationally. You can be a fundraiser, development officer, corporate public affairs specialist, sales manager and more. Organizational Communications - You can work in almost any business as a communicator. You might have a job as a director of corporate communication, trainer, human resource manager, public information officer, executive, sales manager or more. Government / Politics - Who needs better communication skills than a politician? You could be the ghostwriter behind the next president! You could be a legislator or legislative assistant, press secretary, research specialist. Or you could BE the president! Health - Effective communication is a key tool for health care providers. You could be a health educator, medical grants writer, hospital director of communication, health communication analyst, communication manager, hospice manager, activities directorÂ… High Tech - Perhaps high tech could use more communicators! You might be the person who helps translate the tech ideas to the "lay public." You may be the person who creates the Web pages, or the human resources person. You could run the meetings or the company! Negotiator / Conflict Management Specialist - Conflict management and negotiation is all about effective communication. You can work in any number of settings ? private or public corporation, law firm, nonprofit institution and more as the person who helps others manage conflict. International Relations - Understanding how people of different cultures communicate is vital to success in this field. You could be a translator, a foreign relations officer, a host for dignitaries from other countries, a foreign correspondent, a diplomat.
