Mid-Term Exam: Arts Participation, NAEP, National Standards (for 3/22/99)
You will have 75 minutes to write on the following questions on the paper provided. Spelling and grammar are important. Please respond in paragraph form, rather than listing. You may answer in any order, provided the answers are labeled clearly for the question. Each essay is worth 20 points.
1. Discuss the major factors that correlate with forms of arts participation.
2. Briefly, discuss the development of the National Standards and the NAEP for the arts.
3. Describe the circumstances under which dance and theatre are taught in the 8th grade in America. Include discussion of who teaches them, where they are taught, and how much of the student population has access to school-based dance and theatre instruction in the 8th grade.
4. Discuss the principal values of the arts and the need for the Standards.
5. Discuss what every student should know and be able to do in the arts by the time they’ve completed secondary school.
