Can a combinatorial game help students develop intuition for an important theorem? This is the story of how I addressed a challenge in the classroom by designing and having students play a simple chip-stacking game, and then lost -- I mean, invested -- most of my sabbatical trying to understand the not-so-simple combinatorics and partition theory behind the game.
